Deductibles · Carrier guide

Allstate wind & hail deductibles, by the numbers.

Allstate carries a separate wind/hail or named-storm deductible in most catastrophe-exposed states. The percentage is small; the dollar amount usually isn't. Here's exactly what it costs at the dwelling limits Allstate writes most often.

Real example: $18,000 hail claim, Allstate

Damage estimate (roof + gutters + siding)$18,000
Wind/hail deductible (1% of $450k Coverage A)−$4,500
Depreciation if on ACV (10-yr roof, ~35%)−$6,300
First Allstate check (ACV)$7,200

On RCV, the depreciation comes back after repair invoices are submitted — but the $4,500 deductible never does.

Frequently asked

Does Allstate use a percentage wind/hail deductible?

In hail-prone states, yes. Allstate policies in Colorado, Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, and parts of the Southeast typically carry a 1%, 2%, or 5% wind/hail or named-storm deductible. The percentage applies to your Coverage A dwelling limit, not the claim amount.

What's the difference between Allstate's wind/hail and hurricane deductibles?

The wind/hail deductible triggers on any wind or hail damage, including thunderstorms. The hurricane deductible only triggers on declared hurricanes (in Atlantic and Gulf states). Some Allstate coastal policies have both — meaning hurricane damage triggers the hurricane deductible, but ordinary hail still uses the wind/hail deductible.

Can I get a flat wind/hail deductible with Allstate?

In low-risk areas, often yes. In high-hail zip codes — most of Colorado, the DFW metroplex, and Florida coastal — Allstate generally requires a percentage wind/hail or hurricane deductible. The lever is moving from 5% down to 2% or 1%, which usually raises premium.

Where is the Allstate wind/hail deductible on my dec page?

On the Allstate Policy Declarations, look for the 'Deductibles' section near the top. You'll see your standard deductible (flat dollar) and a separate 'Windstorm or Hail Deductible' line. If that line shows a percentage, multiply by your Coverage A limit to get your real out-of-pocket per claim.
